Where it started
On 23 October the Valencia outlet Tribuna Deportiva reported that Liverpool had told the club and the player's camp they wanted to pay David Otorbi's €30m release clause. The same morning Plaza Deportiva reported, in the future tense, that Valencia would execute an extension to 2031 lifting the clause to €60m. Fichajes.net had reported on 14 October that Valencia were asking €30m.
What happened next
This Is Anfield, TEAMtalk, Sports Mole and others carried the Liverpool line the same day; Inside Futbol added Newcastle. One headline said the player had rejected Liverpool, which the body of that article does not support.
What was checked
The player's agent, Nacho Gallart, told Radio MARCA Valencia around 19 October that several clubs, mostly from the Premier League, had called, and that the player was happy in Valencia and in no hurry. That corroborates interest, not a Liverpool approach. We found no renewal announcement from Valencia on the morning of 24 October, and neither club has commented.
Verdict
Unconfirmed. Two reporters with a record on this club, partly backed by the agent; no document for the renewal and no word from Liverpool. Claim dated 23 October 2026; verdict dated 24 October 2026.
