Where it started

TEAMtalk, 21 October, citing an unnamed reliable report and an undated line from Pete Hall of The i Paper that the player had been interested in Old Trafford a few months earlier and had not changed his mind. LiveScore syndicated it and Football FanCast ran it as the player being keen.

What was checked

Newcastle announced a new long-term contract for Hall on 11 September, with the player calling it a proud moment and the sporting director saying he was delighted to extend him long term. Asked about contract matters on 9 September, Ross Wilson said the club comments when things are done and finds it unhelpful otherwise. Nothing on the record from Hall, his agent, Newcastle or Manchester United addresses the October claim. TEAMtalk's own September reporting said a short-term move was off the table.

Verdict

Misleading. One unnamed source multiplied by republication, standing against a signed contract and on-the-record quotes six weeks old. Not graded false, because no document contradicts a private decision. Claim dated 21 October 2026; verdict dated 24 October 2026.
