The first half was goalless. Palace were the stronger side, but chances were scarce. Newcastle took the lead in the 47th minute, within two minutes of the restart, when Jacob Murphy dug out a curling cross and Osula got across his marker at the near post to stab home from close range.

Joe Willock put the ball in the net in the 52nd minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review, so the score stayed 0-1. Barnes doubled the lead in the 58th minute, just before the hour, sweeping home Amar Dedić's low cutback from close range. Palace had a few late efforts but did not get back into the game, and the home crowd booed at full time.

Newcastle move to 11 points and 7th in the table. Crystal Palace stay on 7 points in 17th, a point above the relegation zone according to Sky Sports.

Palace are now without a win in four games, which adds to the pressure on their manager, Pierre Sage.
