Liverpool let two leads slip as Muriqi completes Fenerbahçe comeback
Fenerbahçe came from behind twice to beat Liverpool 3-2, with Vedat Muriqi completing the comeback after Archie Brown had restored parity for a second time. Liverpool's defensive errors turned two leads into a second successive defeat and ended their perfect Champions League start.

Liverpool's first lead came through Trey Nyoni in the 25th minute. Dominik Szoboszlai's delivery found Archie Brown under pressure from Virgil van Dijk, and his headed clearance fell to Nyoni, whose first-time volley took a slight deflection off Kojo Peprah Oppong on its way past Ederson. Mason Greenwood responded four minutes later, his free-kick changing direction off Jérémy Jacquet and wrong-footing Alisson.
Liverpool regained the advantage after the break when substitute Alexander Isak headed in Cody Gakpo's cross in the 69th minute. Their response was immediate, but so was Fenerbahçe's. N'Golo Kanté's delivery was flicked away from Alisson by Gakpo's attempted clearance, leaving Brown with a finish at the far post four minutes later.
Brown then became the provider. His cross from the right in the 79th minute found Muriqi, who held off three Liverpool defenders before directing a header beyond Alisson. The winner exposed the same weakness that had undermined Liverpool throughout the decisive spells: their inability to deal with deliveries into the penalty area.
The result gives Dirk Kuyt's interim spell at Fenerbahçe an important victory against his former club. Liverpool, meanwhile, have followed their defeat to Arsenal with another loss, and their European record is no longer perfect. Taking the lead twice counted for little when they could not defend either advantage.
