Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield in the Premier League, scoring twice in the first half through a Pascal Gross own goal and Alexander Isak to end the visitors' eight-game unbeaten run.

Liverpool went ahead in the 17th minute when Florian Wirtz's powerful low shot deflected in off Gross, and the goal accreditation panel ruled it a Gross own goal. Bart Verbruggen then saved from Cody Gakpo to keep the gap at one, but the second goal came in the 21st minute: after a Liverpool counter-attack, Isak met a cross from Bradley Barcola with a first-time finish.

Brighton arrived in form but were unsettled early, losing a player to injury after only six minutes, and they never recovered from conceding twice in about four or five minutes. Yasin Ayari hit the woodwork around the 36th minute, and Liverpool defenders blocked shots with their heads before half-time. Brighton had more of the ball and more shots, 17 to 13, but only one of them was on target.

Wirtz went off in the second half, which slowed Liverpool's momentum, and the half produced little action as Liverpool saw the win out. Brighton had kept five clean sheets in a row in all competitions before this match.

The result was Liverpool's first Premier League win at Anfield under Andoni Iraola and Brighton's second defeat of the season. Brighton started the day third on 16 points and Liverpool fifth on 12, so Liverpool moved to within one point of them.
