The first came out of Milan's own area. Lorenzo Torriani, in goal for the suspended Mike Maignan, got in a mix-up with Koni De Winter seven minutes after half-time, Zachariassen took the loose ball and Joseph finished. The second, on 66 minutes, began at the other end: Zachariassen ran from his own half on the counter, drew Torriani out and left Joseph a tap-in.

Ruben Amorim had changed three players at half-time, sending on Christian Pulisic, Diego Moreira and Mario Gila. Yet the habit that had brought Milan a goal inside 25 minutes in each of their previous four home matches deserted them for the whole evening.

Ferencváros finished with ten men. Bamidele Yusuf, on for Joseph at 67 minutes, was sent off ten minutes later, and Milan still could not score.

It was Ferencváros's fourth European win in a row, a run their club last managed in 1967-68. Milan have three points from four league-phase matches, and two of their three defeats have come at San Siro.
