Kenneth Taylor scored after two minutes, a left-footed finish from the centre of the box, and Sassuolo were level by the seventh after a long VAR check. Lazio then scored twice in three minutes: Gustav Isaksen met Mattia Zaccagni's cross first time and put it in the bottom corner, and Romano Floriani turned in Taylor's cross from close range.

Thorstvedt was sent off on 31 minutes for a tackle on Zaccagni. Sebastiano Esposito pulled one back two minutes before half-time, but Zaccagni headed in Isaksen's cross in stoppage time.

Stefano Turati saved penalties from Zaccagni on 50 minutes and Davide Frattesi on 61, and Tijjani Noslin answered each save with a goal from outside the box: a curl into the bottom corner on 55 minutes, a strike into the top corner on 65.

Lazio have 25 points from nine games, eight of them wins. Gennaro Gattuso would not count them: "We don't have to look at the standings," he said. Inter, three points behind, play at Venezia on Wednesday; Sassuolo stay 14th on eight points.
