Celta Vigo and Real Betis drew 0-0 in La Liga, with Celta on top for most of the first half and Betis the stronger side after the break, but neither able to find a goal.
Celta dominated the opening 20 minutes, and Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Valles kept the game level with a series of saves, the decisive ones against Hugo González and Pablo Durán. In the 21st minute, with Celta briefly down to ten men while Javi Galán was down injured, Abde Ezzalzouli's shot from a tight angle was turned behind for a corner by Celta goalkeeper Ionut Radu. From that corner, Diego Llorente narrowly failed to finish at the far post.
Betis took over after half-time. In the 52nd minute Nelson Deossa, starting as the striker, hit the crossbar with a powerful shot in the box after Llorente won the ball back, and soon afterwards Radu saved from Antony. Claudio Giráldez brought on Ferran Jutglà and Williot Swedberg on 57 minutes as Celta lost control, and Manuel Pellegrini answered with Troy Parrott and Pablo Fornals around the hour. Parrott had Betis's best chance of a winner in stoppage time but shot just wide.
Betis stay fourth with 20 points, one behind third-placed Real Madrid, who played Barcelona later on Sunday, and seven behind the leaders Barcelona. It was their second straight league game without a win, following a 5-2 defeat by Barcelona the previous weekend.
Celta are ninth with 12 points. Their unbeaten run in La Liga reached seven games, although the draw ended their chance of a third straight win.
