Al Ahly beat Kitara 4-0 to reach the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, with Hussein El Shahat scoring twice in a 6-1 aggregate win.
Al Ahly had most of the ball early against a deep Kitara defence but were wasteful. Taher Mohamed's low shot was saved in the 8th minute, and El Shahat volleyed over from close range at about 20-21 minutes. El Shahat made amends in the 37th minute, chipping the keeper from the edge of the box after a cross from Tawfik Mohamed, with the goalkeeper off his line. It was Al Ahly's 700th goal in African competitions. Mohamed Magdy 'Afsha' made it 2-0 in the 44th minute, finishing inside the box from a low cross, which effectively settled a tie Al Ahly already led 2-1 from the first leg.
Ashraf Dari was taken off at half-time. El Shahat added his second in the 51st minute with a low finish at the near post after getting through one-on-one, and Taher Mohamed Taher headed the fourth in the 68th minute. Al Ahly then brought on substitutes and missed several more chances.
The win follows a 2-1 first-leg victory in Uganda. According to africasoccer, it is the third time Al Ahly have reached the group stage of the competition, and according to Ahram Online they are now Egypt's only team left in it after ZED FC were knocked out by Azam United. Afsha's goal was his 12th for the club in continental competitions.
Al Ahly coach Hussein Ammouta told Al Ahly TV: "Even though we were late scoring the opening goal, we controlled the game, and the timing of the first goal was more than great." He said Dari was tired and that he did not want to risk him.
