Sunderland and Leeds United drew 0-0 at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League, with neither side able to find a way through in a drab matchday 8 game.

Leeds started strongly and controlled possession early on, despite poor conditions caused by Storm Boelo. That early pressure brought no goal, and the contest gradually lost its edge as the afternoon wore on.

Sunderland may have had the better of the chances in what GiveMeSport described as a drab game. Their goalkeeper also made a series of saves, which 101 Great Goals highlighted, to ensure the home side kept a clean sheet.

The result leaves Sunderland bottom of the Premier League and without a league win in six matches, although the point ends their run of four straight top-flight defeats. Leeds move up to seventh but are now without a win in four matches, three of them draws.

Confirmed 15:32 UTC · Line-ups: espn.com Dominic Calvert-Lewin leads the Leeds United line in a 3-4-2-1, with Anton Stach and Noah Okafor among the substitutes. Wilson Isidor is not in the Sunderland squad, and Brian Brobbey starts up front in a 4-2-3-1.

Sunderland are 20th with 4 points from 7 games, six points behind Leeds United, who sit seventh with 10 points and two points behind fifth-placed Liverpool. Last season the two were the only promoted sides to stay up, and Sunderland took four points from Leeds. The expected outcome is a Leeds United win in a game of two goals or fewer, with one side failing to score. Stuart Attwell referees, and talkSPORT, as reported by Egypt Telegraph, lists the fixture among four on 25 October that could be affected by Storm Austin.

Kevin Danso serves a one-match suspension after his red card at Bournemouth, and Romaine Mundle, Dan Ballard and Thomas Meunier are out, while Wilson Isidor is doubtful, with sources in conflict over whether he will play. Brian Brobbey missed the Lech Poznan game with a hamstring problem, but Régis Le Bris says he should be ready. For Leeds, Joe Rodon and Mateo Joseph are out, and Calvert-Lewin, Stach and Okafor are doubtful. "Our offensive players from the last game are all doubtful," said Daniel Farke, who has named an unchanged team for the last five games. Daniel James is available after a back problem.

Sunderland drew 1-1 at Lech Poznan in the Europa League on Thursday after a 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth, and have scored 6 and conceded 14 in the league. "I am pretty sure we will be rewarded soon," said Le Bris. Leeds drew 1-1 with Manchester United last weekend, Calvert-Lewin scoring the equaliser, and WhoScored says only Arsenal have beaten them this season.

Sunderland have not lost in the last two meetings, drawing 1-1 at home in December and winning 0-1 at Elland Road in March through a Diarra penalty. On Leeds' last visit Calvert-Lewin scored in a sixth consecutive Premier League match. "We want to have revenge from last time we were there," said Gabriel Gudmundsson.
