Frankfurt can turn their cup win into a league climb over Hamburg
Tuesday’s 3-1 cup win gives Frankfurt a chance to move above Hamburg in the league. Fábio Vieira, who scored Hamburg’s winner in the last Bundesliga meeting, is out with a hamstring injury.

Frankfurt’s cup win was not as one-sided as the score suggests. Adi Hütter said Hamburg had been the better side in the first half, before Frankfurt scored three times in nineteen minutes after the break to win 3-1 and reach the last sixteen.
Frankfurt should win narrowly, with three goals or more and both sides scoring.
Frankfurt can jump above Hamburg with another win, despite sitting three places below them. They are 14th on eight points after seven league matches and have conceded seventeen goals; Hamburg are 11th on nine points, but have lost their last two matches.
Fábio Vieira scored Hamburg’s winner in the 2-1 league meeting in May, but a hamstring injury rules him out. Hamburg will also miss Yussuf Poulsen, Nicolas Capaldo, Nicolai Remberg and Fernando Dickes, while Frankfurt are without Jessic Ngankam.
The latest cup tie changed the immediate picture between the sides: Frankfurt won 3-1 in Hamburg after Hamburg had taken the league meeting 2-1 in May. Across the last six competitive meetings, Frankfurt have won three, Hamburg once and two ended level.
