Newcastle United won 2-0 at Crystal Palace in the Premier League, with second-half goals from William Osula and Harvey Barnes settling the match.

The first half was goalless. Palace were the stronger side, but chances were scarce. Newcastle took the lead in the 47th minute, within two minutes of the restart, when Jacob Murphy dug out a curling cross and Osula got across his marker at the near post to stab home from close range.

Joe Willock put the ball in the net in the 52nd minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review, so the score stayed 0-1. Barnes doubled the lead in the 58th minute, just before the hour, sweeping home Amar Dedić's low cutback from close range. Palace had a few late efforts but did not get back into the game, and the home crowd booed at full time.

Newcastle move to 11 points and 7th in the table. Crystal Palace stay on 7 points in 17th, a point above the relegation zone according to Sky Sports.

Palace are now without a win in four games, which adds to the pressure on their manager, Pierre Sage.

Confirmed 13:02 UTC · Line-ups: espn.com Walter Benítez starts in goal for Crystal Palace, with Dean Henderson and Jorgen Strand Larsen absent from the squad and Axel Disasi in a back three. Jacob Ramsey and Anthony Elanga are on the Newcastle bench, with William Osula leading the line.

Pierre Sage's side return to Premier League action under pressure after the 5-0 defeat at Brighton, which a Yahoo Sports headline said left him facing an uncertain future and which cpfc.co.uk said was Palace's first away league defeat since the opening day. Sage says Palace must show tactical discipline and a strong mentality, while Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle said: "They have had a heavy defeat and then drew yesterday. They will want a reaction." The expected outcome is a Crystal Palace win, with two goals or fewer.

Palace are without Quinten Timber (thigh), Takehiro Tomiyasu (calf) and Chadi Riad (knee), and Jorgen Strand Larsen is a concern after coming off injured against Besiktas. Dean Henderson is doubtful with a foot problem after returning to training, and Walter Benitez could start if he misses out, but Axel Disasi is available again after a three-match ban. Newcastle are without Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen, and Jacob Ramsey is unlikely to play with a thigh injury. Anthony Elanga, who has missed the last four league games, is doubtful; Jaissle said: "He won't be able to play 90 minutes but he is hopefully ready, at least, to be able to join the squad." Matias Fernandez-Pardo will be assessed after illness.

Palace are 14th with 7 points from 7 games, having scored 9 and conceded 17, and their last four games in all competitions have each had more than 3.5 goals. Newcastle are 11th with 8 points from 7 games, but they have lost three of their last four, have failed to score in their last two league games and were beaten 1-0 at home by Aston Villa last time out.

Palace won 2-1 at Selhurst Park in April, when Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice, the second a stoppage-time penalty, and William Osula replied for Newcastle. That result ended a three-match winless run against Newcastle, and Palace could now beat them in consecutive games for the first time in the Premier League era. Palace have lost only one of their last 10 home meetings with Newcastle.
