Danks takes Bayern into Der Klassiker as Dortmund arrive level at the top

Bayern and Dortmund are unbeaten on 17 points, but Bayern’s 25 league goals have given them a much stronger goal difference. Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital but has no return date, leaving assistant Aaron Danks in charge against a Dortmund side that has conceded only four goals in seven league games.

Saturday’s Klassiker brings together the Bundesliga’s two unbeaten leaders, with either side able to open a gap at the top. Bayern’s attack has been the division’s most prolific, but Dortmund’s defensive record makes this a more balanced contest than the goal difference suggests.

Bayern should have the firepower to win, but Dortmund’s counterattacks are good enough to get them on the scoresheet in a game that could reach three goals.

Kompany is recovering at home after collapsing during reserve-team training and being taken to hospital. Bayern have set no return date, so Aaron Danks remains in charge. Luis Díaz is unavailable and Jamal Musiala is a doubt; Dortmund are also dealing with several absences, including captain Emre Can.

Both sides have 17 points from seven matches, with five wins and two draws apiece. Bayern lead on goal difference at +19, having scored 25 and conceded six. Dortmund have scored 12 but let in only four, and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has kept five clean sheets already.

Bayern have won their last three competitive meetings with Dortmund. They took the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup 2–1 away in August, after winning the previous league meeting 3–2 at Signal Iduna Park in February; the last Bundesliga meeting in Munich, in October 2025, also went Bayern’s way, 2–1.
