"Real Madrid will sell Vinícius Júnior in January, and Arsenal are waiting"

Two headlines from one Spanish site, each stronger than the article beneath it. Vinícius signed a contract to 2032 in August.

Where it started

Fichajes.net, 15 October, Mario Roldán Martínez: the headline says Real Madrid will try to offload Vinícius in January after friction with José Mourinho, and names Arsenal as a destination that would not go beyond €150m. The body is conditional: he could leave if the club decides to end his time there. It states that there is no confirmed formal offer and no agreement between the clubs, and its Arsenal interest rests on unnamed British reports from July.

What happened next

Football Extras, 18 October, citing Fichajes: Arsenal eye a January move and Madrid are willing to sell, for around £127m. Fichajes returned on 24 October under the same byline with Arsenal "rubbing their hands", believing they have more and more options to close the signing; the body says there are no open talks between the clubs, no offer and no agreed fee, and that Real Madrid have announced no plan to negotiate his exit. The Hard Tackle ran it on 25 October as Arsenal closely monitoring the situation, with a €150m ceiling it attributed to no one.

What was checked

Real Madrid's official statement of 6 August 2026: the club and the player agreed an extension that binds him to the club until 30 June 2032. Mourinho, Real Madrid's coach, in remarks reported on 18 October before the league match against Sevilla, said that in the player's place he would probably have forced an exit last summer to a country where he would be respected, and that Vinícius signed because Real Madrid is his home. Nothing from Real Madrid, Arsenal, the player or his representatives addresses a January sale. He is serving a four-match league suspension after his sending-off against Villarreal.

Verdict

Misleading. Two headlines from the same site say more than the articles beneath them, which themselves record no offer, no talks and no plan. The player is under contract until 2032 by the club's own statement, and what is on the record from his coach is a view of last summer, not a sale this winter. Claim dated 15 October 2026; verdict dated 25 October 2026.
