Where it started
Africafoot, 22 October, under its editorial team's name and as exclusive information: Manchester United are studying the possibility of signing Rayan Aït-Nouri and are considering bringing in the Manchester City left-back on loan. It recalls that a loan with an obligation to buy had been mentioned in the English press, notes that he has not played a minute in the Premier League this season, and says City will have to decide. It reports no approach, offer or talks.
What happened next
CentreDevils carried it on 22 October as a January loan under consideration. On 24 October Sport Witness relayed it, and Sports Illustrated's round-up listed it as United exploring a loan for a player it called frustrated by limited minutes. The same day The Peoples Person headlined that United had made a major decision, though its text quotes the report as saying a loan remains to be seen, and TEAMtalk had United ready to raid City to salvage their season.
What was checked
On 1 September, deadline day, Ben Jacobs reported an initial United approach for Aït-Nouri and said it was unclear whether talks would progress. Sky Sports reported that United had no intention of signing him permanently, and the talks stalled over a clause that would have obliged them to buy him at the end of a loan. He stayed at City, who signed him from Wolves in the summer of 2025. TEAMtalk counts no Premier League minutes for him this season and 34 in the Champions League. Nothing from City, United, the player or his representatives addresses a January loan.
Verdict
Unconfirmed. The claim comes from one site that names no reporter and describes United studying an idea, not making a move. Nothing on the record contradicts the interest and nothing supports it, and the one approach on the record ended in September over the terms of a loan. The headlines that followed went further than the report. Claim dated 22 October 2026; verdict dated 26 October 2026.
