"Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Alex Scott and a January deal is ready"
One Chelsea writer's paywalled report, made firmer by the sites that repeated it. Bournemouth's owner says he wants the midfielder to stay, and no January offer has been reported.

Where it started
Si Phillips, on his Chelsea Substack, 25 October: Chelsea aim to get a deal for Alex Scott done before January, a move he had earlier expected for the summer of 2027, after three offers for the Bournemouth midfielder were rejected in the summer window. Most of the post is behind a paywall; the sites that relayed it say it describes personal terms as largely in place since the summer. Phillips had written on 14 October that Scott was pushing to leave Bournemouth and was keen on Chelsea, and said on his YouTube channel, as TEAMtalk reported on 19 October, that Chelsea's coach Xabi Alonso and players had been speaking to Scott, adding that nothing is done until it is done.
What happened next
CaughtOffside ran it on 25 October as personal terms verbally agreed, adding that there was no guarantee the deal would be completed by 1 January. Tribuna carried it the same day. On 26 October FootballTransfers headlined it as a January deal ready to be confirmed, with Bournemouth resigned to losing him and asking for more than €100m. None of these outlets quotes anyone at Chelsea, at Bournemouth or in the player's camp.
What was checked
BBC Sport, 13 October, Nizaar Kinsella: Bournemouth are willing to sanction a sale if an offer of about £100m arrives in January, with their league position as a further condition; Scott's contract runs to 2028. BBC Sport had reported in July that Bournemouth rejected a £64m bid from Chelsea. Bill Foley, Bournemouth's owner, told talkSPORT, in remarks reported on 23 October, that the club were convinced they were the right place for Scott to be and to stay, and that they had not given up. Nothing from Chelsea, the player or his representatives addresses the report. Scott is out with a thigh injury picked up on England duty, according to FourFourTwo.
Verdict
Misleading. The personal terms rest on one writer's paywalled post, and a January deal ready to go appears in no report that names its source, only in a headline. What is on the record runs the other way: the selling club's owner says he wants the player to stay, and the BBC's account makes any sale depend on a £100m offer and Bournemouth's position in the table. Claim dated 25 October 2026; verdict dated 26 October 2026.
