Lazio's attack is closing in on a club scoring record

Lazio's 28 points have given them the best opening ten matches in their history, while 24 goals have put their attack within reach of the club's highest scoring total at this stage. Only the 2017-18 side had scored more across its first ten league games, with 26, giving this season's record start an attacking dimension of its own.

A record start with an attacking edge

Lazio have never opened a league campaign with a better return than their 28 points from ten matches. Yet the most revealing part of their start may be happening in the opposite penalty area.

Gennaro Gattuso's side have scored 24 times in those opening ten games. Only Lazio's 2017-18 team had found the net more often at the same stage, with 26 goals. The current side is two short of that mark, and its scoring has become a defining feature of a season already rewriting the club's record books.

The goals have kept coming

This is not a burst built around one prolific afternoon. Lazio have scored at least twice in each of their last eight Serie A matches. Only once before have they maintained that level for longer: twelve consecutive top-flight games in January 2020, when Simone Inzaghi was in charge.

The comparison gives the present run a little more weight. Lazio are not simply collecting points at an unusual rate; they are repeatedly putting two or more goals past league opponents. That consistency is what brings the current attack into the club's historical conversation.

A difficult afternoon, another two goals

The 2-1 win over Cagliari offered a reminder that the scoring does not always come easily. M'Bala Nzola gave the visitors the lead, Gustav Isaksen brought Lazio level, and Andrea Pinamonti headed the winner in the 83rd minute.

It was another match in which Lazio found the goals they needed, even after falling behind. Napoli are next, with the record points return already secured and the club's early-season scoring mark now within reach.
